RECOMMENDATIONS
Medical and Nutritional considerations:
- Please check with your individual medical insurance carrier and inquire as to your coverage outside of the U.S. (Costa Rica).
- If you have a medical condition please review this program with your physician and get written authorization to show that you are medically fit for this trip.
- Check with the Center for Disease Control for updates on travel information to Central America

- No shots are required but we suggest:
o Up-to-date tetanus
o Up-to-date Hepatitis A vaccine
- Please inform us of
o Any medical conditions that you have: diabetes, asthma, etc.
o Any allergies that you have (mosquito bites, bee stings, any medication allergies?)
o Medications you are taking (you will need to bring these in original bottles along with a note from a physician)
o Any dietary requirements that you have
- Special note to vegans, Kosher, and strict vegetarians: please be aware that it is often difficult to accommodate strict dietary needs. It may be possible to get meatless and Kosher meals but vegans and strict vegetarians may have a problem avoiding animal products altogether.
REQUIREMENTS
To participate in the program you must:
- Be a high school aged student, or older
- Have a valid passport
- Fill out all participant forms and waivers
- Must be physically fit, know how to swim, be comfortable in outdoor settings, and preferrably have an interest in science and animals.
- Have a current personal health insurance policy
* If you do not have a current passport, you can obtain one by going to your local post office.
General requirements for working on the sea turtle project
The requirements for this "Ed-Venture" are higher since the level of research participation is more intense.
- Be in physical condition to walk ~3 miles + per night on sandy beach
- Have no severe eyesight problems (most work is at night without artificial lights)
- Be willing to work under difficult and uncomfortable conditions (weather, heat, insects…)
- Be aware of and be willing to describe ahead of time any nutritional and medical issues and / or concerns
